I've lived in SE Texas off and on since 1988 and believe me when I tell you this is WEIRD and COLD weather we're having this year. At least one dog owner has been blamed for the death of a dog from the cold and had all their other dogs confiscated but somehow it's just fine and dandy that the City of Arlington seized 26,000+ exotic animals in near freezing weather; just fine even if it contributed to or cause the deaths of 4,000 animals. WTF? Someone PLEASE tell me why animal control agencies and animal rights activist NUTS are allowed to abuse, be cruel and kill indiscriminately simply because they call it "humane" and regardless of the realities that they stuff animals in small cages, fail to provide medical care, sometimes torture and starve animals, kill animals via euthanasia in their hands without so much as the comfort of the arms that have loved them for years and all on bare allegations of those who would and have done the foregoing; while individual owners are held to an unrealistically high standard far exceeding the level of care provided by the activists! Again, WTF?

Dallas could set a record tomorrow." 2.2" is the average and this year a potential all time record of 17.6" plus of snow? In Dallas, TX?
And yet there's some prosecutor a couple of hours east of Dallas telling the media that "it gets cold in NE Texas" and "Barbara Hoffman should have been better prepared". Dude, how many places can't even keep the frigging electricity on up there? Mr. Prosecutor, tell that crap to the national media because those of us who've lived in Texas for years know what a load of crap you're peddling to tell people that they should be ready for one of the worst winters in Texas history!
17 months since Hurricane Ike and there's still news every day of the clean up from Hurricane Ike around here. Brennan's is finally reopening. We still have a multitude of blue tarped roofs and people struggling from day to day but the governments want to start fining and charging people for not repairing and cleaning up fast enough and even though the governments are far, far from getting their own clean ups done. WTF? Yeah, I know the government has unlimited funds and is accustomed to thinking in those terms so just can't seem to imagine that we mere mortals have budgets severely constrained by funding their bloated pockets. But still, when we've reached the level where they can't get it done with all that money, power, and access but STILL think we mortals should somehow do what they can't, when they want to fine us to further bloat their own pockets and still not get their own part done; then I just don't have any better phrase than WTF?
In the midst of all this, the bar for animal owners is being raised further and further and retroactively it seems with mere neglect now being considered "cruel". Be prepared for hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, floods and the worst winter EVER. I wonder if dogs will be allowed to go out and pee come August or if we all need to get our contractors out to build their bathrooms before then because the heat we humans endure is far too much for the dogs and cats. Now there's an unreasonable standard if I've ever seen one.

So, I will end my 4th entry of the day to go finish up my own preparations for SNOW and COLD tomorrow. No doubt the activists would wholly disapprove of me corralling my dogs and cats into the 2 rooms of my home that I know will be warmest because NOBODY'S house down here is built for this kind of weather! I'm from further north originally and I simply can't wait for summer and the chance to TRY to find a contractor who knows how to install radiant floor heat. The critters will benefit but it's for me because I HATE a cold floor and I'm here to tell you the floor in a traditional, no insulation under the floor/no windbreak surround, block and beam SE Texas home is COLD. Yet my girl who's in heat is opting for the chilly floor next to me instead of her elevated, blanket filled crate a few feet away. Is it cruel of me not to force her into the warm crate or onto the padded bed and pile of blankets between her and the crate? Or is it cruel not to let her fevered body have the chill floor to cool her? I wonder...
