Petland, Uncle DAS wants YOU!

As I write, the City of Dallas Animal Shelter Commission is getting ready to meet and ask: “Why can DAS staff not enter onto someone’s yard to investigate complaints of animal cruelty or animal code violations when utility workers… can enter yards without permission?  Why is DAS not allowed to as well – City ordinance or department policy?” Pg. 4, #17.  How about peeking in bedroom windows while you're there?  Ah, yes, how many ways can we violate your Constitutional and civil rights, let us see if we can find some more!  The US Constitution comes in a pocket size version and is less than 50 short, pocket sized pages long.  I’ve seen this one and the print isn’t even tiny.  PLEASE order some (only $1.50 each) and pass them out to your employees!  Shoot, the Kindle edition is just 99 cents and I’m pretty sure it’s searchable.  I’m pretty sure some kind citizen would be willing to buy them in bulk for you and pass them out if you’d all be willing to give them a read!  Surely your well paid tribe of lawyers could draft a little cheat sheet for you…  Oh, sorry, forgot, they need to read it first.  Do you think the City ordinances are the highest law of the land?  Seriously?

“What is the policy for issuing citations prior to seeking a civil seizure in cruelty cases?  Should not the citations be after the seizure… ?” Pg. 4, #21.  Yes, of course, certainly wouldn’t want residents to have the slightest CHANCE of fixing things before stealing their animals (and killing them from what's about 2 paragraphs below)!

“Tethering… no more than ‘3 hours’ language is a defense to prosecution which the owner must establish” Pg. 3, #12 (emphasis in original).  And again…  Make sure you cite, probably arrest, and prosecute, don’t use any discretion and help people learn, go straight for the jugular!

And on YOUR side:

“why were all 118 cats seized on Fr. Worth Ave. ordered to be destroyed – were none worthy of saving?” Pg. 3, #4 (emphasis in original).  Damn good question!  And you don’t already know the answer because… why?

“reports of dogs being kept outside in the receiving bays for several hours… exposed to the elements” Pg. 4, #30.  Do the terms “unreasonably deprived of necessary food, care, or shelter” or “cruelly confined” ring a bell, any dog fights in those bays caused by such placement and holding?  Pray tell, which employees have been cited for cruelty?  When will their criminal hearings be?  I’m sure there are some community members who would like to attend those.

Petland – Are all the animals there registered and vaccinated in accordance with Sec. 7-4.5?” Pg. 4, #26.  I’m guessing Petland didn’t get an invite to the meeting.  Hm, I see another Gestapo/USGE seizure in the planning…  Petland's corporate number is (740) 775-2464 if anyone would like to give them a head's up.

Well, I recognize the first name below.  How lovely to just keep naming people, over and over and over…

  • “revocation process… Gideon case” Pg. 3, #14.  Yeah, a fixed process might be nice, you know, that silly due process thing, property rights…  any of this ring any bells?
  • “Status of Laniz Adams investigation” Pg. 3, #5
  • “internal investigation on Cotton Lane incident last year” Pg. 3, #6
  • “Status on Ron Teague” Pg. 4, #31

I SWEAR I’m trying to work on the ex post facto law entry but stuff that crosses my eyes just keeps landing on my desk right now.  And, oh, just wait, if what is landing right now turns out, oh my goodness…
