Chihuahuas Join the poor "pit bulls"

Some days I wish the "big one" would hit California and it would slide into the ocean.  This is another one of those days!  And I'm not a big fan of the AKC but I can get behind their message 100% on this one.

Meet the teeny Chihuahua (generally weighing in at 2-4 pounds when full grown):

Mandatory spay/neuter of teeny dogs?  Seriously???  How about mandating that the humans STOP PROVOKING DOGS.  How about we go back to teaching children how to behave around animals?

I'd also put up a picture of a "pit bull" except its one of those fuzzy terms governments like to use and then claim it means whatever they say it means.  Hm, "Void for vagueness is a legal concept in American constitutional law that states that a given statute is void and unenforceable if it is too vague for the average citizen to understand... In general, a statute might be called void for vagueness reasons when an average citizen cannot generally determine what persons are regulated, what conduct is prohibited, or what punishment may be imposed."  Well I damned sure can't figure out what a "pit bull" is and I have 2 college degrees, one of them in LAW.  I know there's no "pit bull" on the list of AKC recognized breeds though.

I'd try to figure out how they decided on these 2 breeds to pick on except I know the answer is easy.  They're bullies, control freaks, and dictators.  Some things just don't need over thinking.

Hollister, CA to Consider Mandatory Spay/Neuter of Chihuahuas and Pit Bulls

[Thursday, May 13, 2010]

The Hollister City Council has given the city attorney permission to draft an ordinance to mandate the sterilization of all Chihuahuas and "pit bulls" in city limits.

This is in response to a recent report by the Hollister Animal Control stating that there has been a significant increase in shelter intake, euthanasia, and dog attacks among these breeds, although the term "pit bull" is not defined.

The AKC opposes all breed-specific and mandatory spay/neuter proposals. These proposals are discriminatory, difficult to enforce, and fail to address the true problem of irresponsible ownership. We encourage all responsible dog owners residing in Hollister to contact city officials and respectfully request they not move forward with this proposal.

Click on the above link and follow the suggestions!

No doubt Hollister, CA, like most of California, has enacted some other foolish pet laws which are more likely the underlying cause of whatever issues they are having (if the "problems" aren't entirely a work of fiction).  Oh, well, the Chihuahuas and "pit bulls" need all our help so pitch in.  And pitch in to help defeat these bad pet laws whenever you see them proposed.
