Playing With Pittie Gets Woman Shot!

By now some of you are wondering why I'm so cynical about what gets reported in the media around here.  We have a case of actual reporting this morning so I can show you what underlies my skepticism.

2 women playing with a "Pit Bull" dog are seen and heard by a La Marque (Texas) police officer who jumps to the conclusion that it's an attack by the "Pit Bull" and proceed to draw her weapon and start shooting.  Both the dog and one of the women is shot.  The woman sustained a gunshot to the chest!  http://www.click2houston.com/news/21236395/detail.html  (Yeah Ch. 2.  Keep that actual reporting up!)

"A La Marque woman was hospitalized with minor injuries Wednesday night after she was wounded when a La Marque police officer shot at a dog, authorities said.

"The officer opened fire shortly before 7:15 p.m. after she saw a dog attack in progress in the 2300 block of 5th Ave. near Walnut in La Marque, officials said."  Well, that's our good old Houston Chronicle who takes everything authorities say at face value.  I'm not sure they have reporters any more; just copy guys who call authorities to get their one-sided perspective.  Of course, they've already added a paragraph after this one (probably based on the Ch. 2 story, not their own sources).  OK, yeah, I find it disturbing that on-line news like the Chron revise posted stories and don't display the archive versions of the story and sometimes it makes reading through the comments a very disorienting experience!  I quoted the story because it could very well change before you click on the link :)

And then there's the local paper version.  In this one, the officer was responding to a "shots fired" call.  Of course that would justify her being in a heightened state of alert.  Yeah, sure she was Chief!  ROTFLOL.
