“In a statement to ABC News, the managing director of Casella Wines, John Casella, says the company will look to non-political groups in the future.” That’s nice but you’ve already done significant damage to animals EVERWHERE.
I’m inclined to forgive individuals who get sucked in by HSUS and PETA because I know they are getting bombarded by advertising funded by companies like Yellow Tail Wines. If companies are going to promote their products with donations (which I think is inappropriate to start with), then they darn sure better check out who they’re giving money to BEFORE doing so. In this case, it appears that Yellow Tail Wines, owned by Casella Wines, has gone through with an initial donation of $100,000 even though it appears they had become aware of the issues before doing so. That money and the PR for HSUS can’t be undone so I will NOT forgive Yellow Tail any time soon and I will continue to boycott them until I see some REAL evidence that they have managed to counteract the damage they’ve done.
I don’t really see that happening. That $100,000 could be the money that funds the next outrageous animal seizure that drives an owner to suicide. That’s a bell that can’t be un-rung, nor counteracted, and there’s no way we’ll ever know it that happened or even what that $100,000 was spent on. That money could fund 100 seizures easily and very easily encourage 10,000 seizures of animals. Is Yellow Tail Wines going to foot the legal defense bills for those owners? Not a chance!
I’m THRILLED that WE got them to start seeing the light. That’s the power we hold and need to continue to exercise. But I’m still not letting Yellow Tail off the hook. May the brand “Yellow Tail” DIE just as surely as its $100,000 is helping HSUS kill animals as I type!
