Allyson Stone and Jasper Animal Hospital in Lafayette, CO

Since the Aug. 14 incident at Jasper Animal Hospital in Lafayette, the vet clinic and Lafayette city council members received death threats, and veterinary technician Allyson Stone, who had to undergo plastic surgery, has been roundly derided in Internet forums — so much so that, between the critics and her new-found fears, she’s opted to pursue a different profession.”  HOORAY.  Hope she is never allowed within 10 feet of an animal again!

Understand that this incident was 7 months ago.  If Spork had misbehaved one teeny tiny bit in that 7 months, we’d have heard about it.  He hasn’t.  Spork is 10 years old and weighs 17 whole pounds and this nasty human, a vet tech, Allyson Stone OPTED to prosecute the dog/owner for viciousness.  OBVIOUSLY, this was an isolated incident and one must suspect that the tech, Allyson Stone, had the majority of the responsibility for it happening at all.  I hope the Jasper Animal Hospital in Lafayette, CO, goes belly up and that any veterinarian there who supported Allyson Stone is unable to ever again make a living as a veterinarian or in any other animal related field!

Spork has gotten a reprieve, sort of.  He got a 6 month deferred adjudication.  But just go to that link and watch the video of Allyson Stone!  Two faced B is claiming to like animals while thinking that a full year of torturing Spork and his owners just really isn’t enough.  If you ask me, maybe she hasn’t been derided enough if she still feels that harshly toward Spork.  The blogger from the first item above wonders at the lack of human compassion in this case and I’ve seen that elsewhere.  No, she’s not getting any more compassion from me than she’s willing to show for Spork!  I really hope Allyson has been "spayed" and has never produced offspring!  And the owners are stuck with how much in legal bills, court fees, and on and on?  How likely they’ll be able to trust the next veterinarian?  And how much longer to sweat wondering if the vindictive Allyson will file suit against them?

“The couple also said they'll no longer take Spork, or their other miniature dachshund named Ginger, to veterinarians, groomers or boarding kennels that are in jurisdictions -- like Lafayette -- that don't offer dog owners protection.”  Good for them and we should all follow suit.  Check your local laws and boycott all animal services within jurisdictions like this.  In fact, ask any caregiver/caretaker what they would or wouldn’t report to a governmental authority.  If it’s something more than rabies or another serious communicable disease, boycott them too and pass it on!

Jennifer Edwards, founder of The Animal Law Center in Wheat Ridge, said she thinks the disposition is "a win for Spork and the Walkers."  Jennifer, I think you’re an IDIOT!  Not surprised though since nearly all the “animal law centers” (actually, every single one that I know of) are run by HSUS/PETA type activists.  They just don't think you or I should have an animal in our possession if we don't have a small goldmine on hand to fund legal proceedings that amount to mere harassment of animal owners.  I’m actually at the point where I just don’t trust any organization that puts “humane”, “society”, “SPCA”, or “animal law” in the name of their organization!  Of course, whatever we come up with for real animal welfare cause naming will be instantly co-opted by them too so I don’t have an answer for that but…

BUT there are even more important lessons in this story.  As you may or may not know, most jurisdictions (state, county, and/or local) have animal bite reporting requirements and the world is changing fast.  It is now a world where your own veterinarian and/or staff will report YOU and YOUR animals rather than accept the personal consequences of their vocational choice; where they are more than willing to play animal control licensing fee agent for a fee and report you if you don't buy your tag from them.  No matter that they can’t advise you on how to help your animals issues or even direct you to a qualified trainer; they will have little problem these days picking up the phone to have charges pressed against you while you have little to no recourse for their incompetencies and abuse of your animals should those happen.

HSUS doesn’t really approve of you having animals to start with.  They’ve been recruiting for HVMA and those veterinarians will see reporting you as a swift way to accomplish HSUS goals of taking our pets.  Bet on it.

Those dog bite reporting laws that were intended to preserve human health are now being used to bolster vicious dog laws and the execution of those dogs for a single, even provoked-by-them incident.  They are also being used to make cruelty and other allegations.  Just about anything will do if it will disrupt your life and make it less likely you will take in pets or it will deprive you of current animals.  Mandatory spay/neuter laws that effectively mandate expensive exploratory surgery of female animals which is what I ended my one of yesterday's posts with.  Same thing.  Makes owning animals more expensive, more inconvenient.  Fewer will be adopted from shelters or rescues because the rescues are now being legally mandated to do the same.  And how are they mandating that private organizations do that?  Beats the hell out of me because those are PRIVATE owners just like you and me.  Get ready, we’re on the list and it’s already happening out there.

How are they doing all this?  Because we’ve been letting them snowball down this mountain for YEARS.  So, we have to get the word out to as many as possible.  You really need to be beating this message into your family and friends that they will not be able to have animals in the future.  Hell, many can barely afford them now because of some of these over reaching laws.  I'm sorry but you just need to spam everyone you know with the message until they can recite it back to you so you know they heard it.  You've got to get to them as often as the HSUS commercials do just to stay even!

Starting to see how the pieces fall into place?  How opportunistically the activists can twist the laws to their ends?

Well, Ladies, we’ve been here before.  Throughout history, men have set our health back by outlawing medical practices that only affect us with birth control and abortion being but 2 examples.  We’ve also seen forced sterilization of humans (male and female) in the not so distant past.  And we know what to do.

While trained professionals are usually the best choice, if they can no longer be trusted, we turn to one another.  Some situations may become difficult to deal with without the pros but, hey, it ain’t rocket science.  As pros we can trust decline in numbers, we will network.  The Veterinary Medical Association, its members, and the profession at large needs a loud wake up call that we will not go to them if they can’t be trusted.  In fact, it’s time for us to be pushing for veterinary doctor-client & patient confidentiality laws as well.  We need to beat back these new and unreasonable laws and counter propose our own.

And some veterinarians wonder why I don’t want them sticking their faces in my animals' faces for a “kiss” even when I put my objection as nicely as I could!

And here's a few pics I enjoy:

I rather like the Gadsden but maybe you'd prefer Franklin's Join of Die:

(He wasn't kidding, that's the threat under which we became a nation.)
